Bachelor star Hailey Merkt passed away at age 31. Model dies following cancer struggle

Hailey Merkt, a former Bachelor contestant, passed away at the age of 31 after a devastating battle with illness.

Merkt passed away on Tuesday after receiving treatment for leukemia for several months. This was the first update to her Instagram feed in over two months.

Merkt had made an appearance on The Bachelor season 21, where she had gone up against Nick Viall for his love.

The message opened, «After a brave fight for her life, our beloved Hailey has passed away. It is with broken hearts we share.»

Her determination, courage, and will to live exceeded every timeline the doctors gave her, and she chose to spend her last moments surrounded by loved ones and doing what she cherished most with no regrets, according to the statement that she had «faced this journey with unimaginable strength, grace, and selflessness.»

«Her lovely soul has affected numerous lives,» the statement added. «She will long be remembered as anything but dull, always hysterically amusing, and as someone who lived fully in the present moment.» She also ’embraced life with an unequaled enthusiasm.»

Everyone who knew Hailey will deeply miss her. The statement went on, «Her laughter, her love, and her vibrant spirit have left an undeniable mark on our hearts.»

We take solace in the knowledge that her spirit will endure in all the lives she touched, even as we mourn her passing. Hailey, rest in peace.

It expressed gratitude to her followers and admirers for their contributions to a GoFundMe page that remained open for anyone who wanted to contribute more.

Several other Bachelor contestants honored Merkt in the post’s comments section.

«I am so thankful to have met and loved the most genuine, kind, and stunning person in the strangest of settings, and I consider myself extremely fortunate to have heard your laugh.

I will always be appreciative of your friendship both online and offline. What a force, my dear, you can relax.

A fellow competitor in season 21, Danielle Maltby, said, «So much love to all your people.»

«Oh my god!» Another participant from season 21, Raven Gates, said, «I’m so sad to hear this.» I had high hopes for her recuperation. Hailey, rest easy; you will always be remembered.

«My love, I hope you are in the most beautiful peaceful place,» wrote Dominique Alexis, Merkt’s costar. Though I can’t fathom not seeing you again, I will treasure every memory we share. I cherish you.

Christopher Bennett, the page’s administrator, published a comment to Merkt’s GoFundMe page that provided additional information about her cancer battle and described a devastating turn of events that occurred in her health after she believed she had been given the all-clear.

Bennett stated, «She was informed after the bone marrow transplant that she had nine months to not even consider cancer, but in reality, she only had six weeks before she got the terrible news that leukemia cells were back and moving fast.»

«I don’t care about myself anymore, but I can’t bear being the cause of so much pain for the people I love,» was her initial response. Merkt was said to have said.

«I’m amazed by her.» Bennett went on, «She had such clarity, independence, and grace.»

He went on, calling her a «beautiful soul,» saying, «She decided she wanted to live every last minute she had to the fullest: being with the people she loved and doing the things she loved, and she loved doing so many simple things.»

As per the statement, Hailey received stem cell donations from her brother Kyle, ‘which afforded her the immensely valuable extra time.’

«We cannot accept the world without her, even though it is unacceptable.» We will always keep her close,» it said.

The former Bachelor star’s Instagram was mostly filled with gorgeous pictures of herself and her own photography, but as she neared the end of her life, she shared postings that were both somber and uplifting about her battle with cancer.

She flaunted her bare head in a post from October 2023, following her hair loss due to cancer treatments, while receiving an infusion.

She captioned the photo, writing, «A rare moment caught smiling during treatment :).»

She smiled and showed off her shape in a happy mirror selfie that she shared on November 4, the day after her birthday. She wore low-rise jeans, a sheer green blouse, a gray suede jacket with a fur collar, and a thick, fuzzy brown hat.

’31,’ she wrote, emoji-ing a birthday cake topped with candles.

She continued, «And not the f***ing last,» but she sadly did not make it to her 32nd birthday.

Merkt’s GoFundMe campaign will continue until August 10th, at which point funds will be sent to Michele Merkt, her mother.
