Being a single mother is, according to Sophie Turner, a «struggle»
Following her divorce from Joe Jonas, Sophie Turner has openly acknowledged that being a single mother is a «struggle.»
The 28-year-old Game of Thrones actress, who plays the real-life Joan «The Godmother» Hannington in her new six-part crime thriller Joan, which premieres on Sunday night, talked in a recent interview.
The year-long divorce between Sophie and her estranged husband Joe, 35, of the Jonas Brothers, was reportedly finalized on September 11.Strong disagreements between the two over the custody arrangements for their daughters, Willa, age four, and Delphine, age two, caused the proceedings to be prolonged.
Last Monday, Sophie made her relationship with aristocrat Peregrine Pearson official on Instagram, much to the joy of her followers. In 2019, she tied the knot with Joe.
Sophie said to The Sunday Times Culture Magazine about her new role as mother Joan, «Joan changed me quite a lot.» So much drive and ambition are born out of pure desperation.
The television series coincided with a period in my life when I needed to be driven, have a strong will, and resist external forces. I gained a lot of strength from her.
I don’t know whether I could have given it the same amount of energy if I hadn’t been a mother. Being a single mother is really difficult.
Earlier this week, Sophie acknowledged that, having begun work on the series after her divorce from Joe, she was «swept away» by emotion while filming ITV’s Joan.
The show will chronicle Joan’s development in 1980s London from homemaker and mother to minor criminal, diamond thief, and mastermind.
«I’m a Pisces, I’m emotional,» Sophie said at a press conference regarding the play, explaining why she had no trouble turning on the waterworks.
Sophie remarked, «She is so funny but she has gone through so much trauma and is so ambitious,» in reference to her new position as mother Joan.
She is a mother, a lover, a liar, and a thief, among many other things. The fact that this entire tale is factual is simply amazing.
The story follows Joan as she flees her abusive husband but has give her daughter up to care for her while she recovers.
Despite having no resources and nowhere to reside, she is able to get employment as a jeweler, where she proceeds to steal her first gems.
Her life changes for the better when she befriends Frank Dillane’s character, Boisie, an antiques merchant, who becomes her co-conspirator. In addition, Sophie stated that she could easily access her emotions as she is a mother and anything related to kids comes naturally to her. I believe that occasionally, while performing a presentation like this with all the glitter and diamonds, you might get carried away by it all.
You must keep in mind that her goal is to give her daughter a stable and secure existence so she may reclaim her. And the narrative is truly heartbreaking.
Frank and I grew very close as a result of this, Sophie remarked. We needed to get along well, and because of the wonderful things Frank does, I believe I kind of fell in love with him on an artistic level. I realized that I was really depending on him for a lot of the emotional stuff.
It was a shared sentiment, according to Frank. «It’s so easy to love Sophie,» he remarks. «It really was such a pleasure,»
Sophie spent three weeks immersing herself in the ’80s character by listening to Wham, ABC, The Pretenders, and Bucks Fizz. The drama, according to writer Anna Symon, is entirely based on Joan’s 2002 memoir, I Am What I Am.
«I was captivated,» Joan remarked. She is a remarkable, multifaceted woman who is both strong and vulnerable. Despite her awful decisions, people may identify with her.
The actual Joan Hannington, who had retired from theft by now, was delighted with Sophie’s portrayal. ‘I’m a touch jealous [of Sophie], she’s smaller and younger,’ she remarked during a launch event in London with her son Benny.
Bravo to them; they couldn’t have asked for anyone better. I hope they receive the acknowledgment they merit.
