«End of an Era!» The Simpsons series finale airs surprise, shocking viewers
After The Simpsons, a renowned animated sitcom, aired what seemed to be its «series finale» on Sunday, viewers were left perplexed.
Bart’s Birthday, the Season 36 finale, was presented as a «Fox special presentation,» with former writer Conan O’Brien emceeing a farewell party akin to the Oscars.
The animated O’Brien exclaimed, «It’s such an honor to be with you all for The Simpsons series finale.» Yes, that is accurate. Fox has chosen to discontinue The Simpsons. Being at this show means the world to me since it was such a special aspect of my early career.
‘He then uploaded snippets from what he claimed were unaired efforts at the series finale, forcing viewers to gather to social media to voice their astonishment and indignation.
«I haven’t watched a new Simpsons episode in about 24 years, but it’s surreal seeing the series finale on right now,» one fan wrote on X, while another wrote, «Wait wait The Simpsons SERIES finale WTFFFFF.»
Another wrote, «The Simpsons series finale…the end of an era,» and a third regretted, «The Simpsons series finale.» They truly were about to finish.
For a brief while, it seemed as though The Simpsons would accomplish a first: letting a character grow older on their birthday.
Bart, however, is unable to face the fact that he will turn eleven. Homer responds by strangling him, which causes the program to malfunction and restart, wiping out the «series finale.»
The episode, according to creator Matt Selman, was a satire that explored what constitutes a strong finale by speculating about what The Simpsons, the longest-running animated series ever, would look like if its ending were composed entirely of artificial intelligence.
He told Vulture that artificial intelligence (AI) was used to mimic all the standard «finale» clichés, such as Principal Skinner leaving Springfield Elementary and Mr. Burns passing away, in order to demonstrate the artificial intelligence’s intrinsic lack of inventiveness.
He clarified, «AI is good at regurgitating but not at being imaginative.» Selman went on to discuss the challenges of concluding a program meant for endless runtime.
«It lacks a strict canon or a dense continuity, so it can go on forever.»
The fictitious finale follows fans’ shock upon learning that the popular animated series contains a secret film buried amid dozens of episodes.
Throughout the first several seasons of the adored Fox series, viewers might frequently spot the Simpsons family watching the same action-packed film, McBain, on TV.The broadcast frequently veered off course to show viewers a scene from the movie they were currently viewing.
On X, formerly Twitter, a social media user has now brought attention to the fact that The Simpsons ended up airing the whole movie in every episode.
When all of McBain’s scenes are combined, it truly creates an incredibly thrilling short film.
Every McBain footage that aired on The Simpsons last week was uploaded by a user on the platform who goes by the handle Criminal Simpsons.
It went viral right away, and many people on the internet confessed that they were surprised to discover that they had combined to create a «coherent storyline» up until this point.
The film centers on Harry Shearer as McBain, a renegade police officer who, upon learning that the city’s senator is covertly leading a drug gang, goes out on a mission to bring him down.
The persona is very similar to Arnold Schwarzenegger from The Terminator, even down to their shared Austrian accent.
In the second season of the show, McBain debuted in the episode titled «The Way We Was.»In one of the clips, he was heard informing his supervisor that he had evidence that the senator from the city was the «head of an international cartel.»
However, his employer informed him he was sacked because he had become the senator’s nemesis. McBain abruptly shoved the man out the window.
Three episodes later, in the following scene, McBain and his companion were having dinner when the waiter suddenly pulled out a revolver and opened fire.
In an attempt to shield McBain, his buddy leaped in front of him and was shot many times in the chest.
He told McBain shortly before he passed away that taking down the senator was his final dying wish.
In episode 20 of the second season, fans received an update on McBain’s mission to get revenge for the loss of his colleague.
He was observed informing his employer, who somehow survived the fall from the skyscraper, that he needed a better gun to go after the senator.
Although his employer clarified that it would be against the law to use a more potent weapon, McBain was not pleased with his response.
He instantly pulled out a huge rocket launcher and fired it against the wall next to his boss, of course.
After then, fans were left wondering what would happen to McBain, as he didn’t return to The Simpsons until the ninth episode of the third season. However, the animated series did not let fans down when it eventually showed a different part of the film.
In the following scene, McBain disguised himself as an ice sculpture and broke into one of the senator’s dinner parties.
He heard the senator boasting about his most recent «diabolical creation»—a narcotic that is «ten times more addictive than marijuana»—while he was still hiding.
Following the senator’s toast to «human misery,» McBain abruptly broke through the ice, pulled out a revolver, and began shooting at everyone in his immediate vicinity.
The senator managed to elude McBain’s onslaught and consumed one of his «salmon puffs,» which contained an ingredient that caused him to faint.
Season four, episode 17, marked the end of it all as the senator was seen talking to his staff about McBain’s future. They implied that they killed him when they said they would take care of him and that his story had a «unfortunate ending.»
«Great, nothing can stop us now that McBain is out of the way.» Is there another new company? He inquired, but McBain abruptly rose from the table and said, «Only your death.»
Afterwards, McBain killed the senator’s bodyguards, grabbed him, and flung him violently out of the skyscraper they were in; he landed on a vehicle that blew up.
«Meeting adjourned,» he declared, just before a gorgeous redhead woman came up to him.
He informed her, «Right now, I’m thinking of holding another meeting… in bed,» just before they locked lips. Then the words ‘the end’ flickered on the screen.
«I find it surprising that this was never developed into a spin-off series,» a user commented on the Criminal Simpsons topic on X.
One person joked, «It deserves an Oscar,» while another said, «I’m glad I found this thread because I never noticed this before.» That was really awesome.
«»Wow, how did I miss this?» inquired another person.
A fifth tweet remarked, «This is a freaking masterpiece,» while a sixth said, «A show within a show.» Effective as a charm.
