Following the dismissal of the Rust Shooting case, Alec Baldwin speaks out: «Thank You for Your Kindness»
In an Instagram post, the actor responded to his involuntary manslaughter charges’ stunning dismissal with prejudice.
Following the shocking rejection of his involuntary manslaughter conviction connected to his Rust shooting case, Alec Baldwin is speaking out.
On Friday, July 12, at Santa Fe’s 1st Judicial District Court of New Mexico, Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer decided to dismiss the case with prejudice. The 66-year-old actor-producer posted on Instagram on July 13 to express satisfaction that the protracted legal drama was finally over.
Baldwin stated, «There are too many people who have supported me to thank just now,» with a picture of himself in court included.
He continued, «To all of you, you will never know how much I appreciate your kindness toward my family.»
A grand jury in New Mexico accused Baldwin in January after the director Joel Souza was hurt and cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed by the gun he was holding during a 2021 rehearsal on the set of his Western film.
Since then, Baldwin has insisted that neither he nor anyone else knew why the gun was loaded with live rounds. He entered a not guilty plea, and if found guilty, he could have spent up to 18 months behind bars.
The actor’s legal team had requested the case be dismissed on multiple occasions, most notably on July 12 when special prosecutor Kari Morrissey took an unusual oath of office to testify concerning potential suppression of pertinent evidence.
«The late discovery of this evidence during trial has impeded the effective use of evidence in such a way that it has impacted the fundamental fairness of the proceedings,» Sommer stated in the announcement of her decision, which caused Baldwin to start crying.
This was partly due to the ammunition that was dropped off at the Santa Fe Sheriff’s Office being filed separately.
In addition to his spouse Hilaria Baldwin, the celebrity had support from his sister Beth Keuchler and brother Stephen Baldwin during the three-day trial.
Shortly before the dismissal, the latter went up to lawyer Alex Spiro in the courtroom hallway and said, «You have made us so happy.» We have a celebration planned.»
A TLC reality series titled The Baldwins, which was launched in June and centers on Baldwin and his wife’s large family, is planned for them.
Leonardo Ángel Charles, 7, Rafael Thomas, 8, Carmen Gabriela, 10, Eduardo «Edu» Pao Lucas, 3, Romeo Alejandro David, 5, and Ilaria Catalina Irena, 19 months, are the couple’s seven children. Baldwin and his ex-wife Kim Basinger share a 28-year-old Ireland.
In May 2023, Rust wrapped up its filming and went back into production.
Baldwin stated, «It’s been a long and difficult road,» in an Instagram post commemorating the project’s completion. However, today is the trail’s end.
