All wounds mend with time. Over 20 years after Miley Cyrus and Nick Jonas’s Disney Channel courtship, the Jonas Brothers’ Broadway residency allowed Nick Jonas,
now 30 years old, to relive that teen relationship. Fans will never forget the moment Nick began playing the guitar and singing «Before the Storm,»
a duet he and Miley, 30, performed in 2009. Fans captured the event on video, singing along to the song inside the Marquis Theatre.
It was Nick’s first time performing the song in more than a decade (and the first time since he and Priyanka Chopra tied the knot.
Nick hasn’t held back when he’s gushed about «Before the Storm» or his ex.
According to Us Weekly, Nick stated that «[Miley] is a real vocalist» in an interview with the Charts radio show on Apple Music in 2019.
But since we grew up with her, we were aware of that. The Jonas Brothers song «Before the Storm,»
which we recorded with her back in the day, is my favorite track from their discography. She was 16 at the time, and she was singing her little heart out.
Hence, it comes as no surprise that people are starting to appreciate [her talent]. Nevertheless, I’m just sitting there saying, «Told you so.
When they first met at a charity event in 2006, Miley and Nick started dating. Both of them were teenagers who were well into their Disney Channel careers. In her memoir,
Miles To Go, Miley referred to Nick as her «first love,» calling the day of their breakup in December 2007 «the saddest day ever.»
After a brief reunion in 2009, they continued to date other people before getting married in 2018 as Nick and Priyanka, both 40, did.
Miley would later get married to Liam Hemsworth, but their union would disintegrate in 2020.
The anniversary of Miley’s song «7 Things,» which she penned about Nick in 2008, was celebrated in 2021.
According to US Weekly, Miley uploaded a screenshot of her holding up a picture of Nick that was obscured by a scrawled Post-It note.
She also read a scene from Miles to Go that related to the song.
«When I composed ‘7 Things,’ I was upset. She writes in the book, «I wanted to return back home and get even with him for hurting me.
It begins with a list of the things I «detest. I’m not a heart, though. It was clear to my heart from away that it would be a love story.
Why is a love song given to him? since I don’t despise him. I’m not going to let myself hate anyone.
Later, she explained that the song was about «forgiving, not forgetting» the connection. «This is how I feel:
It’s difficult to think of our love as a tale with a happy ending. Well, at least I’m writing some good tunes as a result.
