It’s «Rude,» Says Ice Spice: «Why Would She Not Want to Be My Friend?»
Swift expressed her admiration for Ice Spice’s role as the «driver» of her career in an interview for a Rolling Stone cover story.
Don’t tamper with the friendship between Taylor Swift and Ice Spice.
The «Deli» rapper (real name Isis Gaston) talked on how «rude» it is for people to believe that her friendship and collaboration on the «Karma» remix with the pop megastar were for influence during a cover story interview with Rolling Stone on Thursday, June 25.
«What makes her want to be my friend and not mine?» Ice informed the publication. Taylor fucks me over. She is hilarious. I feel that our personalities are a great fit.»
The 24-year-old hip-hop artist recounted how, while residing in her first apartment in New Jersey, she learned that the «Maroon» singer asked her to collaborate on the «Karma» remix.
She was being recorded by RiotUSA, Ice’s producer, when she got a call from her manager, which she took to mean «bad news» because «he usually texts.»
«He says, ‘You should listen to Taylor Swift’s record from her album.'» I’m using my phone to act casual. I think that’s really cool. Really awesome. I’m crying uncontrollably when I hang up the phone, the «In Ha Mood.»
In the cover story, Swift also shared her admiration for the budding hip-hop artist.
She remarked, «I love meeting new artists that are passionate about the music industry and how it operates in addition to the music itself.
«I’ve observed how our industry attempts to persuade musicians that they would be better off focusing only on their artistic endeavors and producing music, leaving the labeling and management to handle the rest.»
Swift went on: «It excites me much to see Ice dive deeper into the business, finance, and strategic facets of her work. Artists can have greater influence in their creative realm the more they understand about the inner workings of the music industry.
She didn’t seem to want to be a bystander in her own profession, based on the observations and questions she asked. She desired to operate it like the driver.
Ice discussed her debut album, Y2K!, with Entertainment Tonight at the 2024 BET Awards in late June. She mentioned that the record featured «a couple» of collaborations.
Ice was cautious about a possible future collaboration when asked if the 14-time Grammy winner will «return the favor» of the «Barbie World» artist landing on her «Karma» remix back in May 2023.
Regarding Swift, she remarked, «I think she did me the favor.» «However, I’m not sure. Let’s observe, observe, observe.»
