Just 600 more copies of Sabrina Carpenter’s Short N Sweet album allow it to surpass Travis Scott at the top of the rankings
It was a narrow victory for Sabrina Carpenter over Travis Scott at the top of the charts, but it was definitely sweet.
The 33-year-old rapper was beaten by just 600 units to the top of the Billboard 200 album charts by the 25-year-old singer, whose megahit Espresso recently achieved 1 billion plays on Spotify.
The highly anticipated results were released on Tuesday, when Sabrina’s sixth album Short N Sweet was declared the winner over Travis’s vintage effort Days Before Rodeo. The Taste hitmaker had earlier declared that he will defeat Travis in the charts to exact revenge on Nicki Minaj, because in 2018 the Houston-born rapper’s Astroworld defeated the 41-year-old Trinidadian-born rapper’s Queen.
‘This one’s for Nicki,’ Sabrina captioned some chart data she published on X last week.Already, Sabrina’s album is filled with big singles, such as the megahit Espresso and the brand-new song Taste.
Contrarily, on August 18, 2014, Travis reissued a mixtape that had previously been made available independently on his SoundCloud account. To his surprise, it turned out to be the biggest Hip Hop album to premiere this year.
Sabrina, meanwhile, was recently feeling festive as she responded to her popular song Espresso hitting one billion plays on Spotify. On Wednesday, the hitmaker announced on her Instagram that the song had joined the ‘billions club’ in a tale she posted last week.
«Holy sh*t!» The celebrity replied, «Thank you for streaming,» with a heart emoji after her fans denounced the cost of her 2025 tour tickets as «scandalous and appalling.»
The upbeat pop tune from her impending album Short n’ Sweet was made available in April 2024.
The song, along with its Dave Meyers-directed music video, immediately became well-known throughout the world. It peaked at number one on the Billboard Global 200, becoming the artist’s first number-one hit.
Espresso reached its highest position on the US Billboard Hot 100 at number three. Espresso is a song about being self-assured and alluring. The lead singer compares herself to coffee and implies that she is so captivating that she keeps people up at night thinking about her.
«Now he’s considering me.» Hey, isn’t it sweet every night? Sabrina sings, «I guess so/ Say you can’t sleep, baby, I know/ That’s that me espresso.»
She appears in compelling scenes with a male main star against a beach backdrop in the upbeat music video. Sabrina, along with Julian Bunetta, Amy Allen, and Steph Jones, wrote Espresso.
In addition, she has achieved another chart-topper with «Please Please Please,» which debuted as her first number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100.
Her upcoming sixth album, Short n’ Sweet, has this song as its second single. August 23 is when the record is scheduled to be released.
Eyes Wide Open (2015), Evolution (2016), Singular: Act I (2018), Singular: Act II (2019), and Emails I Can’t Send (2022) are her previous five studio albums.
Her recent musical achievement coincides with her candid discussion of her public relationship with 31-year-old actor Barry Keoghan in a Variety interview that was released on Tuesday.
The singer-songwriter dispelled rumors circulated by fans that the Saltburn actor might have influenced some of the lyrics on her next album.
She also talked about the experience of having the Oscar nominee play the lead in her music video, Please Please Please.
When the celebrity revealed that she tries to avoid using too much political content in her lyrics, some fans who were looking for a deeper look inside her relationship may have been disappointed.
She remarked, «Writing about things that have happened already or in the past feels easier.»
A little distance seems to help her gain more clarity, although it appears that the delayed creative process raised some questions in the studio.
«I write a song three years after I last spoke to the person who inspired the lyric, and my producers tell me I’m beating a dead horse,» Sabrina said.
Sabrina famously had her actor boyfriend star in her music video for «Please Please Please,» which features songs about having an actor for a partner, despite her assertions that she prefers to focus on things in the rearview mirror.
Barry was already a fan of the song, so she said he was completely game for the music video shoot.»He cherished the tune.» «I’m very appreciative that he’s so fixated on the lyrics,» Sabrina exclaimed.
After a number of critically acclaimed films, notably The Banshees of Inisherin, for which Barry was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, she also took a time to compliment Barry.
The singer declared, «I don’t want to sound biased, but I think he’s one of the best actors of this generation.» «Therefore, the video became even more special and better when I saw him on screen with my song playing as the soundtrack.»
Sabrina and Barry elevated their romance earlier this summer when they made their red carpet debut on May 6 at the Met Gala.
The couple got together for the first time at the Givenchy runway show at Paris Fashion Week in September.
The two weren’t connected, though, until late in the previous year, when they were spotted together on a date in the upscale Brentwood suburb of Los Angeles in early December.
Barry dated Alyson Kierans, a dental nurse, for two years before he fell in love with Sabrina. The two of them had a son named Brando, who was born in August 2022, when Barry was filming Saltburn.
