After Obi Ndefo, her former Dawson’s Creek co-star, passed away at the age of 51, Katie Holmes honored him.
Re-sharing a photo that her other co-star, 70-year-old Mary-Margaret Humes, had uploaded, the actress, 45, commented on Instagram Stories, «He was wonderful to work with and such a kind man.»
My thoughts and prayers are with his family. The actress continued, adding a love emoji and wishing him rest in peace.
Between 1998 to 2002, Ndefo portrayed Bodie Wells, the brother-in-law of Holmes’s character in Dawson’s Creek.
After it was announced that Obi had passed away earlier in the day, Mary-Margaret, who starred as Dawson Leery’s mother in the popular adolescent drama starring Katie, James Van Der Beek, and Joshua Jackson, also praised Obi as a «dear friend.»
‘Heartbroken at the loss of my younger brother and knowing he’s finally at peace,’ his sister Nkem Ndefo wrote on Facebook on Saturday, August 31, 24.
‘These words don’t come easy,’ Mary-Margaret wrote in her Instagram tribute. My dear friend, it’s difficult for me to believe that you are no longer among us.
You have always been a blazing beacon of light and always will be. I will treasure all of our words of love and support that we have sent over the past few years. «What an example of pure unfiltered love and tenacity you set as you faced life’s challenges recently.» Peace be with you, lovely warrior.
A video of him with his «Dawson’s Creek» co-stars and a vintage selfie of the actor were included in Mary-Margaret’s tribute. The character of Obi appeared and disappeared from the show before he and his family settled in the Capeside neighborhood.
In addition to revealing his demise, his sister also posted a picture of the two of them grinning. The reason for the actor’s passing is yet unknown.
Following a trip to a supermarket in Los Angeles and just after returning from delivering a yoga session, Obi was struck by a car in August 2019, resulting in the loss of both of his legs.
The hit-and-run driver struck Obi as he was loading groceries into his parked SUV, leaving his right leg completely severed and his left leg dangling off. The driver then fled the scene. In the process of recovering from the tragic occurrence, he lost his left leg.
After completing his studies in drama at Yale University, Obi began his acting career.
He later founded the non-profit organization Arts Alliance for Humanity in Los Angeles, which promotes art education in public schools and communities. Despite having lost both legs to amputeeism, Obi pursued a career in writing and yoga teaching.
The main focus of Dawson’s Creek was the upbringing of a group of friends in the made-up town of Capeside, Massachusetts. The primary protagonists were Jen Lindley (Michelle Williams), Pacey Witter (Jackson), Joey Potter (Holmes), Dawson Leery (Van Der Beek), an aspiring filmmaker, and his closest friend.
Obi made notable TV appearances in addition to «Dawson’s Creek,» such as «Angel,» «The West Wing,» «Stargate SG-1,» «3rd Rock from the Sun,» and «Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.»
