Taraji P. Henson Responds to Keith Lee’s Reaction Following Error at the BET Awards
At the BET Awards on June 30, the actress from «The Color Purple» remarked that Lee «wasn’t in his seat» after a widely shared mix-up in which she mistook Lee for another influencer.
Following a major mix-up at the 2024 BET Awards, food influencer Keith Lee tweeted a now-deleted TikTok. Taraji P. Henson has responded to it.
Henson, 53, made a comment on an Instagram post on July 2 that featured Lee, 27, letting go of the rose she handed him during a creator-honoring section of the show.
The shortness of life makes this activity unwise. «He wasn’t seated properly 🤷🏾♀️,» the Color Purple actress said in a comment on the image.

«They assign seats to celebrities! I practiced all day to make sure I hit my mark, but the young man missed his opportunity since he wasn’t in his seat.
«His ego is bruised,» she went on. «He’ll be all right. At the conclusion of the show, I cleaned it up. 🤷🏾♀️ Here, love is not lost.
On June 30, Henson hosted the BET Awards for the third time. She approached influencer Jordan Howlett during the section when she distributed roses and mistook him for Lee.
Henson apologized for any confusion caused, and Howlett gestured to a separate seat where Lee and his wife, Ronni Lee, were seated.
She apologized profusely, saying, «I got caught up in my own inner monologue,» regarding the instance in which she offered the influencer a rose, which he first accepted.
Not too long afterward, Lee shared the since-deleted TikTok video showing him letting the flower fall to the ground, along with the statement, «There will be no confusion and our name will be known in every room in the exact way, at the exact time, and in the exact way that it is supposed to be.» God is wonderful.

On July 2, Lee made another TikTok post in which she stated, «By no means am I upset with Taraji P. Henson.» «It seems like she smoked it last night,» he continued.
He then added, «I don’t think for a second that Taraji had any malice or bad intentions behind the situation.» «It is what it is.»
He stated unequivocally that «the reason I did this had nothing to do with Taraji P. Henson» in response to the removed TikTok video showed him dropping the rose on the ground.
«I really think it wasn’t my rose, which is why I dropped it on the floor,» he said. «It was not my time.» Although it wasn’t mine, it was given to me. I often claim that I have no desire for something that is not mine.
Lee continued by saying that the production quality of the program felt «rushed» and that «it did not feel intentional or purposeful.»
