The unexpected identity of the trolls who harass Zara McDermott with «bullying» and «intrusive» remarks is revealed

The unexpected identities of the trolls who harass Zara McDermott with «bullying» and «intrusive» remarks has been made public.

The 27-year-old former Love Island contestant turned documentary presenter made her BBC Morning Live debut on Thursday, discussing «everyday extremism» and internet trolls.

She talked to specialists about these people’s mindsets and how their regular employment make it harder to absorb the violence in their statements.

‘I’ve done some investigating into who the folks are that troll me,’ Zara said to the audience during the episode.

Actually, I have located one woman who works as an elementary school teacher. I discovered another man; he’s middle-aged, married, and has little kids.

And I also came across another woman who is a nurse.

Zara concluded, saying, «I used to think that a troll was someone who spent their entire day on a laptop, sitting in a dark room, and spewing nasty comments online.»

«But in reality, these are regular people with regular jobs, friends, and kids.»

Since her time on Love Island in 2018, Zara has been the target of trolling, which peaked when her naked images were released and she came clean about cheating on her partner Sam Thompson.

‘I’ve got people commenting on everything I upload, the things that I’m wearing,’ she bemoaned in the short documentary. People have even delved into my relationships and family life.

«It seems so intrusive, and posting anything these days scares me,» the person said.

«I wanted my first mini film to be about something close to me and my experience,» Zara stated on Instagram.

«Everyday extremism» is a term I recently learned about, which suggests that society is encouraging us to adopt more radical viewpoints while hiding behind our phone screens.

It’s a terrifying and genuine experience, and I was able to identify a few anonymous accounts that had previously harassed me in order to get a glimpse of the identities behind the screens.

«When I realized who some of them were, I was shocked.»

Zara has hosted six BBC programs on a variety of subjects, including missing persons and revenge porn.

Zara disclosed in February 2021 that when she was barely 14 years old, a boy circulated her nude photos throughout their school, prompting her to consider suicide.

The sharing of another person’s private, sexual materials without that person’s consent is known as revenge porn, also known as image-based sexual abuse.

She described how she felt «shunned, punished, and shamed» by her friends and instructors in the BBC3 documentary, while the youngster who received the image got away with it.

Zara claimed that the guilt she felt from being the victim of the same crime again in 2018 led her to think of ending her life in order to avoid having to return to school.

The child had shared the picture with pals, and by lunchtime the next day, it had made its way to nearby schools in Upminster, Essex, including the Coopers’ Company and Coborn School.

Zara, a government advisor before entering show business, was attacked in 2020 by a troll who claimed she had lost weight to barely seven stone.

«Sorry to keep having to explain myself on here, but I am definitely not 7 stone 7lbs,» Zara remarked at the time.
Two years prior, ravenous trolls had mercilessly referred to her as a «fat whale» and complained that Zara was too big.

She stated to The Sun, «To the trolls who posted so many nasty comments about my weight, I want you to know that I was almost starving myself and eating just a bag of carrots a day before being signed to Love Island.»
