Tyla’s debut performance at the 2024 BET Awards makes the audience «jump»
The South African vocalist made her stage debut at the 2024 BET Awards, accompanied by «Jump» co-stars Gunna and Skillibeng.
Tyla brought her native country and the flames to the 2024 BET Awards.
The 22-year-old South African singer performed her newest single, «Jump,» featuring Gunna and Skillibeng, on Sunday, June 30, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles as part of Culture’s Biggest Night.
The «Water» artist turned up the heat as she delivered her song from behind a cage full of dancers painted like a gigantic tiger, giving a subtle homage to her devoted audience, the Tygers.
She was dressed in a brown two-piece bra and skirt combo with black thigh boots.
Later on, Gunna and Skillibeng came on stage to rap their verses, and the emerging singer concluded her energetic performance with the viral «Water» dance move, which was also a nod to her Johannesburg origins.
This year, Tyla was nominated for four BET Awards, and she won two of them: best international act and best new artist.
Her most recent show follows the cancellation of her first concert tour, which was scheduled to coincide with the March release of her self-titled debut album. She disclosed at the time that she was coping with an injury’s aftereffects.
«It’s crucial that I communicate what I have to discuss with you today, even though I would have preferred to have handled this discreetly.
I’ve been quietly dealing with an ailment that has sadly become worse for the past year,» Tyla added. «I’ve seen doctors and specialists with high hopes but the pain has only become more agonizing as has the severity of the situation.»
«I’m really sorry to have to tell this, but as of right now, I won’t be able to continue with the tour,» she continued.
It’s becoming more and more obvious after speaking with medical experts that going on any further festival or tour dates would put my long-term health and safety in danger.»
