With their three-year-old son Dakota, Macaulay Culkin and fiancée Brenda Song relish a rare family vacation
On Monday, Macaulay Culkin and Brenda Song, together with their son Dakota, ventured out in Los Angeles, looking every bit the devoted parents.
During the sunny family stroll, the 43-year-old star of Home Alone and the 36-year-old actress of Secret Obsession dressed comfortably in casual attire, with Brenda tenderly holding their three-year-old in her arms.
Wearing a backwards navy baseball cap, grey sweatpants, pink Crocs, and a graphic t-shirt, Macaulay, who was previously spotted riding a train with Brenda and their children, looked stylish.
Brenda, on the other hand, was wearing similar shorts and an oversized grey t-shirt. The actress accessorized her casual look with black sandals and a low bun for her brown hair.
Like his parents, Dakota looked great in a t-shirt, sweatpants, and Nike sneakers.
The two were spotted supporting Dakota during his Sherman Oaks soccer session last month.
The two have been together since 2017, when they first got together in Thailand while working on the film Changeland.
It follows the father of two’s admission that he finds Father’s Day to be a «complicated» holiday.
The Good Son actor thought back on the day following the reception of a unique gift box from Lucasfilm, the production firm.
The actor posted on Instagram, saying, «If you know a little about me then you’d know I’ve had a complicated relationship with Father’s Day in the past.»
Notably, he had previously been involved in family conflict, involving his father Kit Culkin.
However, Macaulay continued in a positive way, «I’ve decided to reinvent the wheel since becoming a papa myself.»
«I try to make the day a celebration of my boys more than me, other than getting an extra hour or two of sleep,» he said, laughingly adding, «After all, they are the ones who made me a father (no offense to Brenda).»
«Father’s Day doesn’t have the same significance in our home as birthdays or Christmas, but it does take precedence over other holidays like St. Patrick’s Day, Valentine’s Day, and July Fourth.»
Culkin clarified, saying, ‘I try to do nice things for the guys on Father’s Day. This is a unique day. ‘Father’s Day isn’t for me, it’s for the individuals that make me feel like a father,’ the celebrity typed out in closing.
In the past, Macaulay has discussed his breakup with father Kit, which occurred when he, at the age of 16, took his parents’ names out of his trust fund.
Additionally, he has previously accused his father of abusing him physically and psychologically when he was a child in the business.
Upon Macaulay’s early rise to fame, his father left his job to devote himself full-time to overseeing his profession.
But the star later disclosed that Kit would ‘deny him some things’, such as a bed, which meant he had to sleep on the couch, and that the young actor was frequently made to stay up all night studying lines even though he was tired.
He subsequently told ABC News, «I think it was just his way of wanting to break my spirit.» «He wanted me to understand that he was in command and that we wouldn’t be sleeping on beds if he didn’t want us to.»
In 2001, he told New York Magazine that he begged his father to allow him to take a vacation from acting as he became more and more weary of the role, but the father refused.
«My father was jealous of me,» Macaulay remarked. He was a nasty guy. He was violent. Before I was ten years old, I was the best at whatever he tried to achieve in life.
In addition, his father concealed his income from him and, unbeknownst to Macaulay, kept a sizable portion of the money for himself. 15% of each movie he made went to his parents.
Following their 1995 divorce, Kit and his mother Patricia engaged in a savage court battle over custody of the children, which included Macaulay and his wealth.
Following the intense altercation, Patricia stayed in New York City while Kit, a very volatile character, seemed to concede defeat and relocate to the West Coast.
Since then, Macaulay and his father have been distant. In an interview with DailyMail.com in 2016, Kit stated that he «doesn’t consider Macaulay a son anymore.»
However, the actor now says that, in an interview with New York Magazine in 2006, his father helped him become a decent father as well.
I had an early understanding that I had to make notes about him. Memoirs on how not to be, about what I hope not to be when I grow up.
