Lily Collins selects her favorite song because she remembers her dad Phil Collins singing it before she had heard it
On an appearance on What What Happens Live, Lily Collins, who plays the lead in the popular Netflix series Emily in Paris, disclosed her favorite song by her father, Phil Collins.
Lily is the daughter of Jill Tavelman and rock musician Phil Collins, the frontman of the band Genesis.
Lily, 35, disclosed that «In the Air Tonight» is her dad’s song of choice, even though she says «there are too many» to pick from.»You know the funny thing is that I have these memories as a kid of songs that I don’t know if they’re actually real,» she stated in response to host Andy Cohen’s question about her favorite Genesis song.
Lily, who spoke on WWHL with her Emily in Paris co-star Ashley Park, said she has recollections of songs that she never heard in real life — hearing them from her mom’s womb.
«The funny thing is, I remember these songs as a child, but I’m not sure if they’re true,» she remarked.
«Because, in my mind, they were like, maybe, when I was still a baby.»
Adding: «But then, there were songs that came on that I thought, ‘That’s a real song?!'» at the first Genesis performance I actually remembered as an adult. That seemed to me to be only a tune in my brain.»
When Lily started her acting career in 2022, she told Glamour that she was happy with her last name and had no intention of changing it.
«I’m incredibly proud of my dad’s accomplishments and what my surname stands for.» Although I am a very proud daughter, I am following my own path and making my own discoveries. «I had no intention of changing my last name,» she stated to the magazine.
Lily expressed her frustration at being referred to as merely «Phil Collins’ daughter.» «I wanted to fight that all the time because that wasn’t where I was coming from,» the speaker said in an explanation.
«And so, knowing how hard I work, I am really proud of where I am today,» the speaker continued.
In 2022, Lily attended dad Phil’s farewell concert with Genesis in London, sharing a post on Instagram to recall the event.
She said that the event was «the end of an era» and thanked her father for «being an inspiration.»
«To have seen this final show was genuinely the memory of a lifetime and an event I will cherish forever,» the speaker continued. Gratitude overload doesn’t even come close to capturing it.
«After 50 years of songs, generations will continue to honor you long after this tour is over.»
Born in Guildford, Surrey, England, Lily started her career at age 520 in 1992 when she was cast in a role on the BBC series Growing Pains.
In addition to Emily in Paris, other well-known roles are those from The Blind Side, Mirror Mirror, Love, Rosie, Les Misérables, and MaXXXine.
